Davidson Chalmers LLP and Albion Environmental Ltd are hosting an information session on Dealing with Soil and Stones - the Options and Risks.

Who Should Attend?

This information session has been designed for producers of waste soil and stones (e.g. housebuilders and groundworks contractors) and those involved in their transport, treatment and/or disposal. The seminar will highlight what the legislation states with regard to each parties Duty of Care requirements to raise awareness on what your business needs to do to remain compliant. It will cover SEPA fines/penalties and include discussion on the various disposal options for waste soil and stones and what criteria need to be met for each option.

Davidson Chalmers LLP - Laura Tainsh

Laura is the lead Partner in the Environmental & Waste Team at Davidson Chalmers LLP, a full-service commercial law firm based in Edinburgh. She graduated with Merit from Dundee University with a Masters of Law Degree in Environmental Law in 2010 which has enhanced her service offering to Davidson Chalmers’ clients through a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles of Environmental Law.

Laura is a Chartered Waste Manager with the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management, the only solicitor in Scotland to have obtained this accolade. She is also a member of the Scottish Council of CIWM and the Scottish representative of the CIWM Scientific and Technical Committee. In addition, Laura is a Law Society of Scotland Accredited Specialist in Environmental Law and is an active member of the Law Society of Scotland Environmental Law Committee and of the Scottish Committee of the UK Environmental Law Association

Laura has varied and wide-ranging experience which covers environmental issues, particularly in the waste sector as well as aspects of construction and commercial property work. She enjoys being involved in unique transactions which require a bespoke but commercial approach.

On the more academic side of things, Laura is a member of the editing board of Scottish Planning & Environmental Law (SPEL) as well as being a regular contributor to the journal and also to Materials Recycling World Magazine as a columnist. She has also had several articles published in the Scotsman, the Sunday Herald, Land Business Magazine, Wind Power Monthly, Recycling and Waste World and the CA Magazine and regularly presents at and hosts seminar and conference events.

Albion Environmental Ltd - Alasdair Meldrum, Director

Alasdair is an experienced senior manager who has worked in the waste management and environmental business services sector for the past 25 years. After working with waste management companies for 10 years Alasdair established Albion Environmental Ltd which provides training and support services for the waste management and associated industries. Albion Environmental Ltd deliver all levels of WAMITAB, CIWM Waste Awareness, Environmental Sustainability and Health & Safety training as well as provision of temporary management support, preparation of CQA plans and supervision of works, assistance with site documentation, environmental monitoring work and waste analysis services.

Albion Environmental Ltd - Andrew Howlett, Principal Consultant

Andrew is an experienced environmental consultant and project manager with over 10 years’ experience in the environmental and waste management sector. Andrew provides ongoing environmental support to a number of housebuilders and has a good understanding of the commercial issues with regard to the disposal of waste soil and stones. Andrew’s technical skills include undertaking and reporting contaminated land risk assessments under both the Part IIA and Planning regimes, remedial strategy development, soil waste classification, production of environmental and material management plans, environmental compliance auditing and verification of remedial measures (i.e. gas membranes, soil caps, anti-dig layers and geo-membranes). Andrew is also experienced in the preparation of waste management licence exemptions and permit applications/variations.
