Event description

Description

During the 1950s and ‘60s, Marianne Straub was designing dobby-woven cloths for Warner & Sons in Braintree and – from 1954 – teaching one or two days a week in London. She resided in Great Bardfield, where her neighbours were Charlotte and Edward Bawden. The couple shared many interests with Marianne, and their friendship is documented in letters from Edward to Marianne, now held in the Straub Collection at the School of Textiles. Join us for a glimpse into Bawden’s humour, his views on life and art, and the quick sketches that illustrated several of these letters. Event will include study of selected Marianne Straub textiles.

Refreshments included.

Speaker: Mary Schoeser
