DEATH DRAWING: Art Macabre at Barts Pathology Museum
Event Information
Description
ART MACABRE presents DEATH DRAWING at
Barts Pathology Museum
Join the infamous Art Macabre for an afternoon salon of "Death Drawing" at the unique location of Barts Pathology Museum. Sketch a range of skeletons and skulls, explore rare anatomical specimens and dissect your drawing techniques, as we present both the living and the dead together in this truly spectacular setting. RIP boring life drawing workshops, hello DEATH DRAWING.
A nude model, our very own flesh and blood ‘Anatomical Venus’, will pose within the beautiful Grade II listed Barts Pathology Museum to coincide with the final weekend of the exhibition of 25 paintings of anatomical art by the museum's Artist-in-Residence Geoffrey Harrison.
Housing over 5000 medical specimens over three mezzanine levels, the museum’s collection contains pathological pots relating to all areas of anatomy and physiology, including the skull of John Bellingham- the only person to assassinate a British Prime Minister. This skull even has its own twitter account (@BellinghamSkull)!
The museum (named one of the 10 Weirdest Medical Museums by CNN) is closed to the general public, except for special events such as this, so take this rare opportunity to examine and sketch the first floor’s pathological specimens; from conjoined twins’ skeletons to the affects of Victorian venereal diseases on organs. Record these fascinating, curious and unique exhibits in your drawings and use them to inform your artwork.
Over 18s only. Tea, coffee and deadly sweet treats served in the break. Drawing materials provided (pens, pencils, charcoal and drawing boards). Bring a sketchbook of your own if you would like, however supplies of A4 and A3 paper will be provided thanks to Cass Art.
