Meet the people with the ideas on 14th September 2025.
The professional politicians have failed to air the most pressing questions put to them by the British people. Now Britain’s leading thinkers air them.
IF BRITAIN IS BROKEN, HOW DO WE SAVE IT?
An event from GOVMATRIX, the LSE’s politics society.
Chaired by Professor Peter Ramsay, Professor of Law at the London School of Economics.
Conference Director: Kristian Partridge
The British people are deeply worried about
• The de-development of the economy following multiple shocks of deindustrialisation, globalisation and digital transformation. How do we ensure a better life for left behind regions and families, and for coming generations?
• What is Britain's standing in today's world, what is it meant to be?
• What will it take for us to feel secure in an increasingly warlike world?
• How can we get better legislators, better governance?
• Which war are we fighting and can we survive it?
We've brought together a collection of prominent authors who've recently written about just this:
Jon Moynihan, Lord Moynihan of Chelsea, advised Liz Truss on her fateful effort to reboot our economy along free market lines. David, Lord Willetts, Chairman of the Space Agency, believes in state directed industrial strategy to make us into a high tech superpower. With Richard Morris (His book: Can Britain Make it?) they’ll debate: HOW DO WE STOP THE RUIN OF OUR ECONOMY?
Ewen Stewart, of Global Britain, and a Growth Commissioner, will be head to head with Sarah Lubrano, (Her book: Don't Talk About Politics, How to Change 21st-Century Minds) and Lee Jones (Taking Control: Sovereignty and Democracy After Brexit) on HOW DO WE GET BETTER POLITICIANS?
On the plight of our defence and security, experts General Sir Simon Mayall, Dr Alessio Patalano from KCL War Studies and a cyberwarfare expert from RUSI (Royal United Services Institute) tbc, will discuss WHICH WAR ARE WE FIGHTING AND CAN WE SURVIVE IT?
Angus Hanton, the economist who has revealed how enslaved we are to foreign capital (in Vassal State), meets Huge de Burgh (Who are we, and how will we survive in the Age of Asia?), Michael Peel of the Financial Times (His book: What everyone knows about Britain (except the British)) and Daniel Hodson of the Campaign for an Independent Britain: WHAT IS BRITAIN IN TODAY’S WORLD?
