Debating London: Making sense of the EU debate
Event Information
Description
About the event
On June 23rd, the UK will go to the polls to decide whether to remain a member of the European Union or not.
On June 22nd, Debating London will host its own 'In or Out' debate, led by a panel of trained advocates, especially for members of the public who have yet to make up their mind.
This event is a free workshop to help you understand and analyse the countless claims already made by both sides since the start of the campaign and the great many still to come.
How to take part
We will not be debating the question, but rather our panel of experienced debate trainers will lead a discussion on what each side needs to prove to win the debate and how undecided voters can go about comparing their arguments.
Active audience participation is not just encouraged, but required. We need you to tell us what you find most frustrating about the way the public debate on the referendum is being conducted, so we can help you hold both sides to account.
Join us for a drink afterwards
We hold our debates in the Tea House Theatre because it's a great place to enjoy a drink - or one of their may different types of tea - and meet new people. We normally stick around for about an hour after the event ends.
Who else will be there
We normally get a turnout of about 50 people for each event, about half of whom are brand new and don't know anyone else. Most guests are beginners with little or no debating experience, but a very open mind.
