About this event

Debating on Zoom every Wednesday 5.30 - 6.30 pm introduces students to the essential skills needed for competitive debating. We engage with a different motion each week, designed to encourage critical thinking around contemporary issues by prompting students to consider both sides of an argument. As the weeks progress, we will cover more debating techniques and topics in preparation for a final full debate during the last session. At the end of the twelve-week term, young people will be aware of how a debate is run and judged.

Young people will confidently build and criticise arguments and have experience defending their opinions.

People who participate in Debating on Zoom will:

- gain confidence and increased self-esteem

- develop critical thinking by increased awareness

- develop public speaking skills that are useful for all sorts of career choices

- become curious and develop tools for research, organisation and presentation

- increase communication skills

- meet new friends and form healthy bonds

- do better academically

Debating helps you to be spontaneous with your thoughts and articulate your opinions successfully.

Our structured programme gives individuals advantages in developing life long learning skills, an awareness of world issues and current affairs.
