Debunking Gender (The Trouble with Transgender)
Training Day with Ms Madison-Amy Webb
London – Friday, 9th December 2016
Debunking verb informal to expose or excoriate (a claim, assertion, sentiment etc.) as being pretentious, false, or exaggerated.
Gender noun is expressed in terms of masculinity and femininity (within our westernised culture) which is determined and is assigned at birth based on the sex of the individual. It affects how people perceive themselves and how they expect others to behave.
This is a unique experience for you to explore gender identity with a therapist who is transgendered.
A day exploring the beliefs around how we culturally and as a species have for the most part misunderstood what it “means to be human” within the contexts and diversity of the other species we share planet Earth with.
Why we find acknowledging that anything other than the gender binary is at best regarded as “Not Valid” or at worst can lead (through fear and ignorance) to the will to destroy what is not understood.
The training day is not centred on academic texts (other trainings are out there for that!) this is going to be a real and interactive experience. Madison will focus on the real life experiences of "Being trans in the world" by drawing on her personal experiences and those of her trans clients through case studies. These are the lives of real people actively doing gender variance.
The training will integrate a mixture of learning styles, through a series of structured exercises, and group discussions we will reflect on how your Gender Identity has been shaped by society’s accepted gender constructs. It will be explorative, experiential, and informative. Providing you with the knowledge, understanding, and skills, to better support those on the journey across the gender border, you will be better equipped to work with your gender variant clients.
