Event description

Description

The healthy eating market continues to thrive, with record-breaking sales for accessible healthy eating books. In recent months, however, there has been a backlash against certain healthy lifestyle brands, particularly those without scientific qualifications who promote 'clean eating'.

Join Eve Simmons – deputy health editor of the Mail on Sunday and co-founder and co-editor of Not Plant Based – as she discusses the often damaging rhetoric of the wellness industry with two women who are working against it: leading performance and eating disorder specialist dietitian Renee McGregor, with registered associate nutritionist and food writer Pixie Turner (Plantbased Pixie).

Renee McGregor is on the International Task Force for Orthorexia, defined as “an unhealthy obsession with otherwise healthy eating". Her eponymous book explores the myths and scientific realities of many popular diets, or “lifestyle choices”, such as gluten-free, sugar-free, and dairy-free, and debunks the falsities that have emerged around them, explaining how your body really reacts to them, and highlighting the health benefits of those foods.

Self-termed “scientist and skeptic” Pixie published The Wellness Rebel in early April, in which she explores the basics of nutrition in an accessible and entertaining way. She is the brains behind the Plantbased Pixie blog and social media accounts, has a Masters in Nutrition with Distinction, and has made it her mission to debunk the “nutribollocks” of many wellness campaigns.

Tickets are £6, and can be redeemed against either Orthorexia or The Wellness Rebel.
