Decent Work in Scotland's Social Care Sector
Event Information
About this Event
Please join our webinar for the launch of the research report 'Decent Work in Scotland’s Care Homes - the impact of Covid-19 on the job quality of front line workers' and for a discussion on job quality in the social care sector.
The report, funded by the British Academy’s Covid-19 Special Research Grant, shows what care home workers think about their job quality and discusses what can be done to improve it in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. The report concludes that Scotland needs to develop a 'culture of care', in which both those providing care and those needing care are fully recognised and valued. Scotland's social care sector therefore needs a cultural overhaul to improve the quality of work and care.
In the webinar, we will outline the report's key findings to then come to an open discussion with all webinar participants on job quality in the social care sector and how a 'decent work agenda', as one aspect of a new culture of care, can be developed by all stakeholders and with care workers at the centre.
The webinar - held via Zoom - is organised by two of the report's authors - Dr Stephen Gibb and Dr Hartwig Pautz (both University of the West of Scotland). The report itself and further detail on the research project can be found here.
Participants will be asked to apply 'Chatham House rules' to the webinar so that every participant can speak openly, knowing that none of what they said will be attributed to them outside and after the webinar.
