Event description

Description

Proper decision making and delegation by trustees is essential for the effective operation of every charity. The Charity Commission expects a high level of competence in these two areas. This seminar is designed to equip trustees with the knowledge and skills they need to make effective robust decisions and manage the risks associated with delegation.

With Jane Grenfell and the LBMW team.

Jane Grenfell has an extensive knowledge of charity law and its application in England and Wales in particular in relation to schools, colleges and Universities. Jane obtained a degree in History and Politics at Keele University in Staffordshire. She is based within the Education and Ecclesiastical team at LBMW.

Before joining LBMW, Jane worked for 28 years at the Charity Commission, where she was Head of Policy and Guidance, Head of Registration, Head of Outreach and Visits, Head of Schools and Education and deputy head of Armed Forces Charities. In her final post at the Commission she was responsible for delivering the Core Knowledge Programme to staff.

Jane has worked closely with DfE on the development of academies and multi-academy trust as charities and advised on the drafting of standard documentation for academies. She was also responsible for enabling the Colleges of Oxford and Cambridge (with their ancient foundation documents) to be registered with the Commission. Jane has given lectures and provided training to lawyers and trustees on various aspects of charity law.

Her knowledge and understanding of charities and the wider legal framework in which they operate, coupled with her ability to quickly find solutions to often complex issues, is an excellent addition to the team at LBMW.

Jane is a member of the Charity Law Association and the Ecclesiastical Law Society.
