Decolonial Walks
Event Information
About this Event
Decolonial Walks is a pedagogical tool being developed by Anamika alongside Decolonise University of Kent. It aims to question the remaining legacy of colonialism within UK universities in the form of buildings, statues and other artefacts while shedding light on histories that have been erased
This tour will concentrate on the legacy of John Locke and contextualise his contributions within his support of colonialism and investment in the slave-trade. It will his connect his investment in companies involved in the slave-trade to the maritime county of Kent and examine its role in supporting the trade and other activities of imperialism. The walk aims to uncover the real histories of the land we walk on and the places we live in.
Meet outside Gulbenkian, University of Kent Central Campus.
