Decorative Chains: Black Children as Fashionable ‘Pets’ - Abi Teeder

In seventeenth- and eighteenth-century Europe, Black children trafficked from the African continent were used in visual art as a prop to highlight both the wealth and of their White, European enslavers. This lecture explores the prevailing cultural amnesia which tolerated (celebrated) children being exploited in this way and the impact of these actions on enslaved children.

This event is free and open to all. Donations of non-perishable food and personal hygiene items gratefully received for the University Student Community Larder.
