In celebration of VisitScotland's Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design 2016, come and see the Central Library's special collections revealing the development, sources and trends in decorative design in the nineteenth century.
Following the pale palette of the Georgian era, the Victorian period witnessed an intense interest in the use of bold colour and intricate design. Understand this change by viewing the pattern and design books produced by influential design theorists including Owen Jones, Henry Shaw, Christopher Dresser, Eugene Grasset, Maurice P Verneuil and Auguste Racinet.
Participants can drop in from 2pm and will have the opportunity to view these special collections in close proximity. Our design collection is held in the Art & Design Library and can be viewed by appointment on other occasions. Email Art & Design Library to arrange a viewing.
