Description

Deeds Not Words - A Guided Walk for Families

Clerkenwell & Islington Guides' Association in partnership with Islington Libraries presents a free guided walk for families as part of Islington Reads - 2018 Year of Reading. This walk has been generously funded by Islington Libraries and is one of several events in their Library2Library programme.

100 years ago World War 1 ended and women got the right to vote. On this walk we find out why some Suffragettes went to Holloway Prison, what they did there and the song they sang. We will discover how the Cat & Mouse Library got its name and see where the ‘Jiujitsu Suffragette’ lived. Along the way we pass an old cattle market, see London’s smallest local nature reserve and learn about some of the people sent to prison during both World Wars as conscientious objectors.

Starting at 11am at The Cat & Mouse Library 275, Camden Rd, N7 0JN, the walk will finish at the West Library Bridgeman Rd N1 1BD in time for you to join the Islington Reads story-telling event in nearby Thornhill Square from 12.30pm-2.30pm.

Booking for the guided walk is essential.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Ideal for children age 7 - 11.
