What is the mobility access for this venue?

Accepted Answer

The ground floor of the Vagina Museum, where we will be, is entirely flat access from street level. There are no steps or inclines between the front doors, the temporary exhibition gallery, the gift shop, the cafe and the toilet. The floor is smooth. There is a lift to our upstairs galleries.

What about for blind or partially sighted attendees?

Accepted Answer

There is no low lighting in any parts of the Museum, except when certain events are on. If you are coming to this event, and want to know the expected lighting level, please contact us for more information. We will be using visual descriptions and introductions as part of the panel.

Question 3

Guide and assistance animals

Accepted Answer

Guide and assistance animals are always welcome at the Museum and we can provide water. The nearest park space for your dog to relieve itself is Middleton Green on Bethnal Green Road or Museum Gardens on Cambridge Heath Road. Both are a five minute walk away.

The event will have seating, made up of padded chairs.

Sensory information

Accepted Answer

The Vagina Museum is located in railway arches. This means that you hear the low rumbling sound of trains overhead every few minutes. We may play some soft music during the event.  During the event sometimes the room may be dark with the panel stage brightly lit. There are stim toys available.

Toilets

Accepted Answer

The Vagina Museum has a single gender-neutral toilet. The toilet is wheelchair accessible and has grab rails installed. A baby changing bench is available. There is a hygiene bin for disposal of waste such as menstrual products, nappies, self-catheterisation equipment, etc.

The event will discuss many subjects that could be perceived as taboo in nature, such as menstruation, illness, surgery, gynaecological procedures, FGM, colonialism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, racism, anti-intersex discrimination, ageism and ableism in our exhibitions and more.

Food and drink

Accepted Answer

The museum operate a nut-free space. Please do not bring nuts for the safety of the visitors and team.

Bendable plastic straws are available on request at the bar.

There is no official secure cloakroom available, but you are welcome to bring your belongings into the space.
