What is a Sound Journey?
A Sound Journey (sometimes called a Sound Immersion or Gong Bath) is a form of sound healing, helping you to relax and re-set. Participants either lie on the floor or sit, whilst the Sound Practitioner plays the gongs and other instruments, leaving you in a state of deep relaxation. The whole experience offers you the chance to reach a state where your body is able to heal itself, reduce stress hormones, release blockages and re-balance itself. You end the session feeling lighter and with good energy.
Overview of the event:
6:30pm We gather in the Chats Palace bar area. Complimentary self-serve hot drinks will be available.
7:00pm Moving into the theatre space, we will begin the session with some gentle bodywork and a short listening meditation before settling to receive the sound immersion, involving Himalayan and crystal bowls, gongs, drones, ocean drum, rattles, koshi chimes and other sounds.
8:00pm The session ends with silence, allowing those who wish to leave in a non-verbal space to do so. Then we will gently re-enter the evening with some reflection space for those who wish to.
What you need to bring:
Please bring yoga/camping mats, blankets and anything else you require to be comfortable and warm - maybe a cushion, warm socks, eye mask, water etc.

With four decades of experience as a musician and community artist, Jon uses his experience and musicianship to create a space of reflection and rejuvenation.
Jon says:
“I like to think of a Sound Journey as a guided meditation, but guided by the abstractions and imaginative imagery of sounds and not the distinctions and specificities of words. Stresses ease, the body relaxes, brainwaves slow. You enter a state where healing is possible and energetic shifts can occur.
Using the sonic and vibrational energy as our guide, we can tap into the natural flow of life. We get to clear out stagnant energy and recalibrate.
During the first part of the session we explore a little of the practice of Deep Listening ®, as developed by US humanist, feminist, activist composer, Pauline Oliveros.
We will begin with some gentle movements designed to leave behind the bodily stresses of the day and arrive together in the space. A short period of guided sonic meditation will follow, developing our ability to ‘listen to all that there is to hear, all of the time’.
From that position of connected and open listening we will settle ourselves comfortably to receive the Sound Journey for the rest of the session.”
Precautions:
As a courtesy to all, please do not attend if you are feeling ill or have been spending time with someone else who is unwell and you could be infectious.
Spending time with gongs is not recommended for:
