About this event

The Deep Tech Network turns two!

Imperial College London and Upstream are excited to invite you join us for a series of online talks and q&a with the leading minds of our deep tech community, followed by online networking. Be inspired by the deep tech innovations from our community of startups, industry & academia who are using science and engineering to develop technologies with the power to transform global challenges that face our planet.

It will be two years this May since we launched the DTN. Organised between Upstream and Imperial’s Department of Chemistry and Enterprise Division, the network aims to encourage interaction collaboration between business and Imperial’s researchers, and develop a deep-tech innovation ecosystem around Imperial’s White City Campus.

White City Innovation District

White City's Innovation District is a growing hub for Life and Physical Sciences, and a hotbed of disruptive and ambitious engineering, involving the world-leading Imperial College London, tech and science startups. We'd usually base our events in White City but we'll be continuing to bring the Deep Tech Network to you online. Tech link will be sent to guests who have signed up ahead of the event.

We have an incredible lineup of talks including:

Keynote: Sam Reed, CEO of DNAe - DNAe is developing LiDia-SEQ™, a direct-from-specimen platform that performs DNA sequencing on a microchip, to provide rapid, actionable information to clinicians. One application of this groundbreaking technology is to test for bloodstream infections and antimicrobial resistance to ensure patients receive the correct treatments.

Dhivya Venkat, CEO of Esya Labs - A precision biomarker company using patented DNA nanotechnology & organelle targeted assays to facilitate drug discovery diagnostics and personalised medicine for diseases including COVID-19, Lysosomal Storage Disorders & Alzheimer's.

Dr Richard Murray, CEO of ORCA Computing - Quantum computing is set to revolutionise the future of computing by using multidimensional interactions to solve the most complex problems. ORCA are at the forefront of this mind-boggling transformation from super to quantum computing which is underpinned by cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Professor Petra Hajkova, Senior Group Leader of MRC London Institute of Medical Sciences - Development of any organism starts with a totipotent cell (zygote) which undergoes division and differentiation to form the whole organism. Prof. Hajkova leads the Reprogramming and Chromatin group at the LMS which aims to understand the complex steps underpinning this cell differentiation to shed light on the fundamental mechanisms involved in regeneration and cancer.

Professor Sophia Yaliraki, Director of The Institute for Digital Molecular Design and Fabrication (DigiFAB) - DigiFAB offers a new era for digital molecular design transforming chemical design, discovery and manufacturing by moving away from slow, labour-intensive manual methods, to highly automated, data-driven approaches. Potential applications include: reaction optimisation, dial-a-drug, materials discovery, and precision agriculture.
