This wonderful, deepening, rewarding course aims to indulge you in plenty of theory and practice around what yoga is, how to practice safely with Ahimsa at the centre of every movement, how to increase strength, stamina and flexbility: both physically and mentally, and how to take yoga off the mat into every part of your life.
We will cover, in detail, the principles of the practice that will be useful in led yoga classes, and in a self-practice, that instructors may not get the time to cover within class, including:
* The potential of yoga – how it can filter in to every day life and every aspect of your life
* Be a beginner: go back to the beginning and re-learn what you think you know
* Getting stronger: building physical and mental strength and confidence, including experimenting with arm balances, inversions, and transitions between the two.
‘Deepen your yoga practice’ students will be encouraged to develop a daily self-practice, assisted by this course; we’ll be with you every step of the way! We’ll also be encouraging you to keep a journal throughout this – hopefully – life-changing journey!
Week 1: Pranayama (breathing) & intention
The power of intention cannot be underestimated! As one of the aims of the course is to help students discover and hone a daily self-practice, we’ll be starting with the power of intention: Why to set intentions, how to do so, how to revisit them, and what to do when you fall off the intention wagon!
First things first: We’ll revisit the Ujjayi breath – including the benefits and techniques of this Pranayama
Awakened by Ujjayi, we’ll then cover technique and benefits for:
* Nadi Shodhana
These joyous Pranayama techniques will be woven into a dynamic flow, followed by a delicious relaxation, to allow the mind to absorb everything we’ve learnt.
Week 2: Ashtanga Philiosophy
‘Ashtanga’ is, of course, a beautiful sequence of yoga asanas (poses). But, ‘Ashtanga’ is also an eight fold, or eight limbed path; a way to live your life.
With this in mind, powered by intentions and Pranayama techniques, we’ll be going within; looking at these eight limbs of yoga, what they are, what they mean, and how they can transform your life; both on and off the yoga mat.
Week 3: Inversions and Arm Balances
Starting with a ‘Inversions and Arm Balances for dummies’ session; we’ll go right back to basics to revisit correct alignment, identifying any potential alignment issues before proceeding… And then it’s fun fun fun!
This session will include an intense flow, with steps towards a range of arms balances and inversions that, in true Yoga Hero style, you’ll take at your own pace. We’ll also cover how to build physical strength and mental confidence, be prepared to feel super strong, energised, and happy! (And empowered, and special, and… we could go on….)
Week 4: Mantra and Mindfulness
What is a Mantra? A Mantra is a sound, word or phrase, that can be repeated silently or out loud. Mantra and intention go hand in hand, so we’ll be revisiting intentions from week 1, and supersizing them! This session then takes the time, around a slow, sumptuous flow, to really get to know your body again, and really indulge in any changes that have occured over the last four weeks.
As we take this time, new intentions may arise that we can sit with and ponder over. This will be a mindful session of Mantra goodness.
Once this session is complete, you’ll be able to go forth and be your own Yoga Hero; a meditating, practising, calm, strong hero; the absolute best version of yourself!
