Event description

Description

Brexit makes the maximum exploitation of British capacity in export markets, particularly those beyond Europe, even more important than it is today. Global defence and security business is a particular British strength and it will be vital to the re-balancing of trade and delivery of prosperity as the UK exits the Union and leaves the Single Market and Customs Union.

This Round Table is of particular significance to a country requiring to use its agility, skills and reputation to best effect.

Defence and security exports – maximising British opportunities post-Brexit is designed to exercise what industry, finance, Government and the university sector can do, singly and collectively, to make the most of the opportunities that will be available but will require swift and decisive action in delivery.

The defence and trade departments face major challenges as the UK plans its future. Industrial regeneration, innovation, the skills base and the investment climate are also of maximum importance and the government aspects of these as well as relevant business assessments are a vital part of this agenda. The Prime Minister has opted for a change in economic strategy but the limitations of austerity have not gone away. How can the UK shape a bold new approach as it looks to an independent economic future? Optimism over globalisation is fading and economic nationalism is taking wing. However, the history and connections of the UK should enable the country to build for success.
