Event description

Description

Defibrillators are increasingly common in public spaces, often on municipal buildings and in public carparks. But how confident are you that you would feel empowered to take action if you saw someone struggling with a possible heart condition?

Everyone is welcome and it is free to attend. To join us please register. Please let us know if you are unable to attend as spaces are limited.

Three defibrillators were installed in Gillingham, two at local schools and one on the external office wall at Farnfields. Another defibrillator was leased for a local primary school at Fontmell Magna which is just a couple of miles from Farnfields’ Shaftesbury office.

Due to the rural nature of the market towns and villages, access to quick medical assistance is difficult, particularly outside working hours. More than 3,600 people are resuscitated by ambulance staff every year in the South West because they suffer a pre-hospital cardiac arrest. For every minute that passes once in cardiac arrest, a person loses a further 10% chance of survival, and with this dramatic loss in a chance of survival, there is a need of a defibrillator every 4-5 minutes walk. Without a doubt, this availability would improve cardiac arrest survival rates throughout the South West. [source: South Western Ambulance Service]
