Shape the Standards Before They’re Written

A 90-minute working session to launch an AI-enabled global metaverse ontology project

The future of the metaverse depends on shared language. Without clear, standardised terminology, concepts like spatial computing, identity, digital assets and interoperability are fragmented, misunderstood and difficult to scale.

This focused online workshop is your chance to help change that.

Over 90 minutes, you’ll join a select group of industry leaders, policymakers, standards professionals, and researchers to shape Metaverse Ontology v1.0 - a multilingual, AI-enabled vocabulary designed to underpin regulation, interoperability and adoption across virtual environments.

From Workshop to Global Standards

This isn’t a webinar or a panel discussion - it’s a working session that feeds directly into international standards development.

The workshop is led by Dr Jessica Symons, Head of the Glossary & Ontology Taskforce at the Metaverse Standards Forum, and a member of ISO and BSI immersive technology committees. The terminology, insights and materials generated will inform ongoing standards activity and be used to support and advocate for the creation of a BSI Publicly Available Specification (PAS) - a fast-track route for emerging technologies to achieve industry-recognised standardisation.

Your participation isn’t just discussion - it’s about actively shaping AI-enabled approaches to ontology development to underpin future standards and influence how governments, industry, and regulators define, govern and build the metaverse.

AI Tools and Innovation Showcase

As part of the session, we’ll explore the role of AI in accelerating ontology creation and validation. The workshop will include a presentation on current approaches, tools, and techniques for building and maintaining ontologies using AI and how these can support standards alignment and governance.

Participants in the Contributor Plus and Strategic Partner tiers will have the opportunity to present their own AI tools, platforms or approaches in rapid 5-minute showcase pitches. This provides the chance to demonstrate innovation directly to an audience of policymakers, standards bodies and industry experts engaged in defining the metaverse.

Bring Your Work – Contribute to a Future PAS Proposal

We’re not starting from scratch and we don’t want you to either. Participants are encouraged to bring their own glossaries, ontologies, taxonomies and related frameworks from projects, organisations and research.

All submitted materials will be analysed and integrated into a source dataset used to build Metaverse Ontology v1.0, which we help us advocate for the development of a BSI PAS. This is a rare opportunity to ensure your work directly informs the conversation shaping future formal standards - influencing how the metaverse is described, regulated and built globally.

Why Attend

Your ticket gives you more than access - it gives you influence. As a participant, you will:

  • 🧭 Co-design the roadmap for Metaverse Ontology v1.0, prioritising key domains such as avatars, identity, spatial computing, interoperability and governance.
  • 🤖 Explore the role of AI tools and methods in accelerating ontology development and validation.
  • 🌐 Set multilingual priorities to support global adoption beyond English.
  • 📜 Contribute directly to ongoing standards activity and efforts to advocate for a future BSI PAS.
  • 🧪 (Contributor Plus/Partner tiers): Present your AI approach or platform in a rapid 5-minute pitch to peers, standards specialists and decision-makers.
  • 🔑 Gain early access to draft outputs and remain part of a 12-month contributor group leading to the publication of Metaverse Ontology v1.0.
