Delirium Webinar
Overview
This webinar is ideal for all clinicians regardless of clinical setting and acuity to enhance knowledge and confidence in recognising, assessing and managing delirium.
Throughout this session there will be PowerPoint slides, case studies, videos and quizzes, and at the end you’ll be given an evidence-based toolkit of resources to use in your area of practice.
This webinar is divided into four major sections:
- Overview of delirium: definition, prevalence and incidence by setting, types, symptoms and pathophysiology
- Delirium assessment: assessment tool (detection and monitoring), holistic approaches to delirium (history taking, examination, targeted investigations)
- Delirium management: underlying causes, communication and reorientation, environment, pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, residual or persistent delirium, delirium superimposed on a dementia
- Delirium prevention: risk factors, barriers and enablers, delirium education and training, research and development.
Integral part of this learning session is to promote a collaborative spirit across professionals and professions aided by the active participation of people who are affected by delirium (patients and families) in its management, also known as multidisciplinary or multiagency working.
The webinar will be delivered by DSDC Clinical Associate, Dio Giotas. Dio is a NMC registered nurse and a specialist clinical practitioner in dementia and delirium with international training and experience. Dio holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing, a master’s degree in dementia studies (University of Stirling) and he’s currently undertaking his PhD. He also holds a PGCert in Medical and Healthcare Education and has a fellowship with the Health Education Academy.
