Tech and IT-related job vacancies make up 12% of all open UK job vacancies, with more than 100K open vacancies per month. It is the fastest growing sector. At the same time the Tech sector struggles to attract diverse talent and even less so build a diverse talent pipeline to fill these desperately needed skills.
Yet young people use technology like no other generation has ever done before. They are tech savvy yet seem to be missing basic technical skills fundamentally required by industry. They seem to believe they are experts yet do not meet the requirements nor interest to work in tech related industries.
The Questions:
How do we get young people interested in STE(A)M?
How can we help them understand and acquire the skills needed to thrive in Tech related Industries and become successful members of the workforce?
How will this need to change in the near future?
Do we have the infrastructure in place to deliver what our economy needs?
How can education outreach help us bridge the Gap?
Panel discussion addressing the issue with experts from Industry and the Skills sector.
Panel Speakers:
- Michaela Eschbach, Managing Director, Founders4schools
- Russ Shaw, Founder of Tech London Advocates (TLA) and Global Tech Advocates
- Jane Yorke, West of England Combined Authority
- Maddy Lingard, Build Project Manager, Virgin Media O2
- Alex Clark, Digital Distribution Principal Engineer, Commercial Banking, NatWest
All are welcome but if you are working in talent development, career education, employability, workforce development or have a passion for helping young people have a brighter future & closing the UK skills gap then please join us.
