Speakers

Tracy Breheny - University of Salford

Title: Successes and challenges of supporting learning online in a library context Abstract: As we see an expansion of the different modes of teaching in higher education, the need to provide student support in an online environment grows increasingly more important. Academic Support Librarian, Tracy Breheny, will talk about how Salford University’s library department has evolved its library, study and digital skills provision by developing and expanding a programme of online workshops and drop-in sessions to support off-campus learning. Tracy will discuss the successes and challenges adopting an online approach has brought and the opportunities it has created, as well as exploring the student profile of those who take part and examining what students think.

Padma Inala - University of Manchester

Title: Supporting distance and online learners: helping them to get the most from their learning experience

Abstract: With the expansion of distance, blended and online learning courses and the increasing numbers of students choosing this mode of study, it is important that we are able to offer high quality services and support comparable to that of our on-campus students. This presentation will briefly outline some of the support in place at the University of Manchester Library as we look to address the needs of distance learning students and try to overcome some of the challenges this presents.
