Are you a befriender with a community group or service that supports older people? This interactive online workshop* can boost your ability to include and support people living with dementia.

This 2 hour training session is designed to build on the learning from our dementia awareness workshops and focus on the befriending relationship and developing communication skills.

People attending should have attended one of our dementia awareness courses in advance of this training. This training is designed for befrienders. If you are a befriending co-ordinator and would like to receive training for your befrienders, please get in touch and we can arrange a workshop for your organisation/project.

The course focuses on the role of the befriender in supporting someone living with dementia. Specifically:

What is important to people with dementia from a befriending relationship
Having a better understanding of the factors to consider when befriending someone with dementia
Developing effective communication skills when supporting someone with dementia

This training is free. Sessions are limited to 12 participants. Organisations may send more than one participant: these must be registered separately and if there is excess demand, a cap of two participants per organisation may be applied. If you would like to organise a video conference session for your whole group at a different time, please email dementiatraining@agescotland.org.uk

The session will take place via video conference and the joining instructions will be sent to you in advance of the session.
