These friendly workshops offer expert and reliable guidance for families affected by dementia who have, or would like to get, their own pet dog.
Workshop sessions bring families together with our Dementia Dog team to explore some of the key considerations around getting and caring for a dog, such as breed, age, welfare needs and how this may best meet your current family lifestyle. This session is packed with practical advice from selecting the right dog, to building a bond and training tips. Participants can then access ongoing remote support as part of our online Family Dog community.
For those already with a dog, the workshops explore how to develop the human-dog bond within your family, dog body language and communication, information on different training approaches and how to set your dog up for success.
Please note: This service does not provide practical dog training classes. However, we do advise on training approaches and signpost to reliable sources of dog trainers. This service also does not train pet dogs to become assistance dogs.
