About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes

Join us this Dementia Action Week for a nature themed walk! For this special walk, we will stroll across Barnes Green, to visit the Beverley Brook and see the wildlife that lives there.

This walk aims to give those living with dementia and those supporting or caring for anyone living with dementia an opportunity to explore nature in a small group. During the walk participants will learn about the history and ecology of the local area and the work that we do to protect it. There will be regular stops and some sensory linked activities. The pace of the walk will be slow and relaxed and people can chat and socialise throughout.

General information:

  • The walk is approximately 500-600m in total. The walk is a mix of paved and unpaved surfaces. Care will be taken during the walk and in the pre-planning to avoid trip hazards.
  • The walk will last about 60 minutes
  • Wear appropriate footwear and clothing for walking off-paths
  • The activity leader will be comfortable leading groups of people but they cannot act as carers or support workers
  • Spaces are limited so please book in advance

This activity is part of Barnes Common's commitment to be part of Age UK and Richmond Council's Dementia Friendly Communities.

Working in partnership with Richmond Council, Barnes Common Limited (BCL) a local independent charity oversees the stewardship of Barnes Common, the Leg o' Mutton Local Nature Reserve and Vine Road Recreation Ground (affectionately known as Vine Road Park).

Conservation has always been at the heart of all that we do and continues to be today. Whether we are preserving precious woodlands, creating important wildlife habitats, sowing seeds in our Community Growing area, introducing the community to the bats at Leg o' Mutton or engaging the community in our Lifelong Learning program, the Vine Road Project and Flood Resilience.
