PLEASE NOTE - the venue for this year will be in Firth Court (Western Bank, S10 2TN) rather than SITraN on Glossop Road.

Dementia Futures is a free public facing conference to give dementia research-related PhD students and postdoctoral researchers across Sheffield and the Yorkshire region the opportunity to present their research to the public.

We have organised a variant of Dementia Futures at the University of Sheffield since 2015. As well as offering postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers/early fellows a valuable opportunity to network and hone their presenting skills in public, it also represents an excellent way for us to communicate to the people of Sheffield just what we are doing in response to the various challenges dementia brings.

The day will begin at 10am for a welcome and introductory talk (entry from 9:30am for refreshments). There will be several 20-minute talks by students/postdocs as well as talks from senior colleagues. Lunch and refreshments will be provided throughout the day (for free), and we aim to finish at 3:30pm.

The full programme for this year will be released later in August - check back for updated schedule.

Below are some of the talks from last year:

  • Exploring the mechanisms of Amyloid beta in Alzheimer’s disease
  • The Effects of Cardiovascular Disease on Alzheimer's Disease
  • How does social isolation impact cognition in dementia patients?
  • Developing a Carer-facing Automated Assessment Tool to Track Changes in People Suspected with Dementia
  • Investigation of how Amyloid protein clumps interact with astrocyte brain cells in Alzheimer’s Disease
  • The Tasty Spoon: Enhancing Meal Experiences for People with Dementia

For more information regarding the event, please contact Dr Osman Shabir on o.shabir@sheffield.ac.uk. Those interested in presenting please also contact Osman for more information.
