Dementia Inclusive Church

Our one-day Dementia Inclusive Churchworkshop is made up of three parts:

  • Understanding what dementia is, including types of dementia and symptoms. We also explore how dementia can often lead to social and spiritual isolation
  • Re-framing dementia, and changing the narrative from hopeless to hope-filled, finding our identity in Christ, rather than any cognitive impairment
  • Exploring practical resources and identifying the next steps for your own church context

Why is it important?

With the number of people living with dementia increasing every year and with about 4 in 10 people in the UK having a friend or family member who has dementia, as a society we are faced with a huge challenge. Churches are well placed to support those living with dementia, but don't always know where to start, or what next steps to take. This workshop will encourage and equip your church to respond to the challenge of dementia, and to think about what it takes to support the full participation of those living with dementia.

Who is it for?

Everyone who would like to take the next steps to make their church dementia and carer inclusive is welcome to attend this one day workshop. From exploring the first principles of what that might look like in your church context, to developing a dementia-specific ministry. The workshop is open to ministers and church members alike, as well as Christians working in health and social care.
