Event description

Description

Dementia is a major public health issue in Wales. Approximately 42,000 people in Wales have dementia. It is most common among older people - dementia affects one in twenty over the age of 65 and one in five over the age of 80. As we face a growing ageing population the need for Government, academia, the NHS and many other support organisations to work together to address this issue becomes ever more important.

Key interventions include promoting good mental health, early diagnosis and effective person centred health and social care whether this is provided by statutory, independent, or voluntary sectors. Dementia extends beyond the clinical setting and the speakers reflect a holistic view of dementia, providing perspective from the clinician to the carer.

This session will explore some of the work done to date, the current activities and look to the future plans. Where are we in our current approach? What needs to be done? How is current and future research impacting NHS practice and community care.
