Description
Intimacy and Sexuality in the context of people living with dementia in a care setting
1 day Masterclass
Sexuality and intimacy are basic human needs. They address different emotional and physical needs for people through their life span. When a person moves into residential care, and is living with dementia, their ability both to express these needs and find support for them can be a challenge. This is often an area of care which care staff feel uncomfortable to discuss. The aim of the day is to explore different aspects and topics around this field. The teaching will use a variety of methods. The approach is of interactive and inclusive learning.
Learning Outcome
- To enable learners understand the role of intimacy and sexuality as part of a provision of person centred care.
The content includes:
-
Explore ways to support the link between intimacy and sexuality
-
Understand different behaviours and their impacts on the individual experiencing them and the care team
-
Discuss supporting sexuality in a care setting
Target audience
We believe in working as a multi-disciplinary team, therefore anybody who is in a role that provides support to people living with dementia is invited to join this workshop. It will be discussed in the context of care settings, but all participants are welcome. A certificate of attendance will be awarded at the end of the workshop.
