Dementia and Pain Underdiagnosed and undertreated. 1 day Masterclass


This Masterclass will equip you with knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to improve care within your organisation. The teaching will use a variety of methods. The approach is of interactive and inclusive learning.

Learning Outcomes

  • Recognize the significance of pain and the barriers to effective pain management

  • Understand the importance of assessment and the range of assessment tools available

  • Appreciate and apply strategies for effective pain management

The content includes:

  • Knowledge of current, research and evidence, including key documents which explore the concept of pain.

  • Understanding the complex relationship between pain and dementia this includes how pain can be communicated.

  • Explore the benefits of using pain assessment tools and be able to identify an appropriate tool for your area of practice.

  • Recognise potential barriers to effective pain assessment within your area of practice.

  • Understand the need for a multi-professional approach to effective pain management.

  • Using clinical case studies to inform practice and develop an action plan.  

Target audience

Any health and social care staff involved in the end of life support of somebody living with dementia. A certificate of attendance will be awarded at the end of the workshop.

*All students employed by a Worcestershire NHS Trust or Wye Valley NHS Trust have to complete a study leave form (or equivalent) if they want (a) to study in works time, or (b) want the Trust to fund or part fund the course, or both. Upon receipt of your approved trust study leave form you will receive notification that your place is booked. If you attend these days without an approved study leave form you will be charged. 

In any given year the availability of conferences, events and study days will depend on delegate numbers. In the event of a conference, event or study day not being run, due to a low number of delegates registering, delegates will in these circumstances be offered a full refund; otherwise no refund of fees will be made

Is my registration/ticket transferrable?

Yes - you can amend your registration details on Eventbrite. However, after registration and payment of the workshop fee no refunds will be made unless the worskhop is cancelled due to insufficient delegates registering.
