Democracy and Dancing
Sat 1 April 2017, 12:30 – 23:30 BST
If you find it difficult to see a way out of the mire that is Scottish politics at the moment, then this event is for you!
The struggle for peace and democracy in Kurdistan continues to cause concern and inspire. The brutal crackdown against Kurds and other opposition forces in Turkey and the creation of democratic, secular and gender-equal civic society in northern Syria are the two ends of a spectrum that continues to develop in Kurdistan.
This day school will bring together a range of speakers with direct experience of the struggles across Kurdistan and promote a discussion on the ideas that inspire these.
The day school will include a Kurdish meal and a social in the evening to celebrate aspects of both Scots and Kurdish culture.
Details of the speakers and the programme will be advertised in the near future. We are hoping to attract a good audience for the event and raise money to help the reconstruction of Kobane in Rojava/north Syria which was destroyed in the battle with ISIS. We have kept the price of tickets for the event as low as possible at £10 for the day school and £10 for the social and a combined ticket of £15 for both events. (Pay at the door)
In order to assist with the costs of the event we are inviting organisations and individuals to sponsor the event. Please get in touch if you would like to do so.
