This event is open only to members and affiliated members of the Labour Party. Evidence of membership will be required to gain admission.

We will be joined by Christine Shawcroft of the Labour Party National Executive Committee (NEC) and recently elected Chair of the NEC Disputes Committee who will address the meeting and answer questions. Christine will be joined by Jo Rust the Parliamentary candidate for NW Norfolk in 2015 and 2017. Jo is also a member of the National Policy Forum and of the Eastern Region Board. She was a candidate in the Norwich North Parliamentary Selection process recently concluded.

Tickets cost £5 Waged in order to help us pay for the venue. Tickets are free for Unwaged and there is an option to make a donation.

In November 2017 the Labour Party announced its Democracy Review. The review will address a broad range of issues including;
  • Developing democratic policy-making procedures, and strengthening the role of Constituency Labour Parties (CLPs) and of Party Conference.
  • Strengthening the involvement and participation of our hundreds of thousands of new members in constituency parties and other aspects of the Party’s work.
  • Strengthening the links between the Party and its trade union affiliates locally and nationally, and engaging more of their members in the Party’s life.
  • Greater participation of women in CLPs and at other levels of the Party, gender representation throughout the Party, and the role of Labour women’s conference.
  • Improving diversity at all levels within the Party including looking at how to increase the involvement of BAME members, LGBT members, members with a disability and other groups.
  • Harnessing the potential of social media across all aspects of Labour’s democracy and political work.

Following the election of three new CLP representatives on the NEC and with the election of Christine Shawcroft as Chair of the NEC Disputes Committee in January 2018, the voice of ordinary members will increasingly play a greater role in the Party at all levels.

Let's use the Democracy Review to shape the future of our Party.

Join us and contribute to the discussion. Submissions to the review on matters relating to CLP democracy and the involvement of members must be made no later than the 23rd of March.
