Democratic Education in the UK
Sat 15 July 2017, 10:00 – 16:00 BST
The Phoenix Education Trust invites you to a public event engaging supporters of democratic education in the UK to meet, share, celebrate diverse practices and consider options for the future. This event will feed into the Phoenix Education Trust’s Review which we invite you to participate in (here) and which we hope will help us plan how to better support the movement for democratic education into the future.
This event will use Open Space Technologies such as World Cafe and listening circles to explore a number of key themes related to democratic education in the UK. It will involve a number of whole group presentations and multiple small group-directed, themed workshops and opportunities to mingle and share more broadly. The themes will be guided by the results of our survey, which is now open, and which you can participate in here.
Potential themes may include:
· Telling the stories of democratic and progressive education in the UK
· Why do we need democratic education?
· Communicating with each other
· Communicating beyond our networks
· Within or without (working in the system, or creating new ones)?
· Experiences and possibilities for funding and support
If you would like to host a discussion or present your experiences during this session, please contact us at email@example.com.
This event will take place in London. Venue details will be confirmed nearer the time, updated to this site, and emailed to you using the email address you provide. If you require any special assistance please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Tea, coffee and refreshments will be provided. Please bring your own lunch, or lunch to share. A long lunch break, and if the weather is nice, a picnic, will be planned to leave enough room for networking, socialising and informal discussions.
We are a UK-wide Charity, and do not want there to be any barriers to interested people attending. If you would like to apply for a Travel Bursary to cover your transport costs getting to London, please email us at email@example.com.
Do you want to help?
We are also looking for 6 volunteers to document the discussions from each of the groups. If you would like to volunteer for such a role, please also email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
