Event description

Description

Open for all film screening of Peterloo and open discussion. We would like to draw attention to one of the most defining moments in British Democracy. Mike Leigh’s new film Peterloo is based on the events surrounding the infamous 1819 Peterloo Massacre, where a peaceful pro-democracy rally at St Peter’s Field in Manchester turned into one of the bloodiest and most notorious episodes in British history.

After the film there will be a short Q/A with Peterloo actor John Paul Hurley & Demsoc. This will also be a chance for people to live-tweet @demsocScotland with comments and ideas to get a discussion going! If you’re a little shy or you’ve seen the film before and can't make the screening you can tweet us on the night instead!

This event is part of The Democratic Society’s engagement event series. We organise spaces for people across Scotland to learn about and discuss democracy, politics and connected issues. Events are free to attend and open to all. If you’d like to keep informed, please join our mailing list: please sign up here.
