Event description
Take your medical career to the next level by creating the perfect portfolio, with tips on collaborating to get the projects you want.

About this Event

Speaker

Mr Phil McElnay is a previous academic cardiothoracic surgery registrar and more recently a medical director at GlaxoSmithKline and founder of an organisation called MedAll.org that helps healthcare professionals build a successful portfolio and collaborate on research.

About the Event

How does the medical career pathway work?

How do I make sure I get the job I want at the end?

What is a medical portfolio?

Do I need one to get a job?

Where do I start in getting the achievements I need to build my portfolio?

This interactive event will answer the above questions. Hear more about Phil's journey, understand how to carve out a medical career that works for you, what a medical portfolio is, the differences in each type of portfolio depending on specialty, specific achievement types that medics need to consider as part of a developing a portfolio (as well as how they can go about getting some of those achievements) and strategies that students can use to maximise the chances of getting the roles they are looking for.

This is followed by a "portfolio clinic" where students with queries about medical portfolios or queries about specific specialities can discuss what sort of things they need to do (publications, presentations, abstracts, QI projects, peer-reviewer status, leadership roles, guideline contributions) to get the roles they would like.
