Demystifying Pre-Trial Therapy
Overview
This training only covers the Crown Prosecution Service guidelines for clients navigating the criminal justice process in England & Wales.
Pre-trial therapy is a misunderstood topic in counselling and psychotherapy. The result is inconsistent service provision, anxious practitioners, and victims / survivors being left without support at a vulnerable time.
Therapy clients impacted by sexual abuse and domestic violence are disproportionately affected by the difficulties in applying relevant legal guidelines to support services.
In this online training, we will learn:
- What pre-trial therapy is (and isn’t)
- The legacy of the CPS pre-trial therapy guidelines and significant changes made in 2022
- Structure of the criminal justice system
- Survivor experiences of reporting
- Contracting, note taking, and managing requests/court orders for notes
- First disclosures and appearing in court
- Considerations in relation to the Information Commissioner’s Office,GDPR guidance, and therapeutic ethical frameworks
The above is delivered from an empowerment-based perspective, enhancing consent / control / collaboration wherever possible for our clients.
Training is 10am - 3pm, including breaks.
Recording not available after event. Resources & CPD certificate provided.
Please let Erene know of any access needs in advance.
