The Lighthouse is the UK’s first Child House and is based on the international Barnahus model. Medical, advocacy, social care, and therapeutic support is delivered under one roof. The Lighthouse provides a safe, child friendly space offering holistic support for children and young people recovering from sexual abuse. It is run by University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) in partnership with the Metropolitan Police and the NSPCC.
This training is facilitated by Dr Sara Lakin (Clinical Psychologist and Principal CAMHS practitioner) and she will be joined during the day by Candice Harris (Lived Experience Consultant) and Clementine Anderson (Consultant Social Worker). Together they will combine insight from lived experience of child sexual abuse (CSA), clinical/therapeutic and safeguarding understandings of the impact of trauma on young people & their families; based on their work supporting children, young people and families at the Lighthouse.
This training will provide attendees with skills, knowledge & a deeper understanding of working therapeutically with children after experiencing sexual abuse and harm, including in the pre-trial period. The training is aimed at practitioners working with children and young people in therapeutic settings, including in CAMHS and third sector services.
