What is the cost of the Deputy Director Induction (DDI)?

There is no charge for the Deputy Director Induction.  Participants will need to pay for their travel and claim this back through their departmental system.  If participants require accommodation, this needs to be booked and paid for through their departmental booking systems.

I need to cancel my place on the DDI.

Is there a hybrid or virtual option for the DDI?

Accepted Answer

No. Only the one hour launch is held virtually. The induction day and DDI connect networking event are designed to work as face-to-face events. If you are unable to attend events in person, please contact us at leadershipcollege@cabinetoffice.gov.uk and we will discuss how we can support you

Is the Deputy Director Induction available to SCS on temporary promotion or TDA?

Yes. The programmes are designed to help you in your first few months in role.

What platform do you use for the virtual launch?

We use MS Teams to deliver the virtual launch.

Question 6

I can’t make the launch, can I attend the launch for a different cohort?

Accepted Answer

No, the inductions are designed for participants to experience all elements of the programme with their cohort. If you are unable to attend one part of the induction, please cancel your place and rebook onto a different cohort.

What does the Virtual Launch entail?

Accepted Answer

You will be sent an agenda one week before the virtual launch.  The launch is a chance to meet your cohort and hear from an experienced senior Civil Service leader.

How will I access the FutureLearn learning?

Accepted Answer

On the Monday following your one hour virtual launch, you will be sent a registration link to the FutureLearn content for your cohort. You will need a FutureLearn account which you can set up in advance of your programme launch.

Do I need to complete the FutureLearn content before the induction day?

Accepted Answer

You will need to complete week 1 of the FutureLearn content before you go to your induction day.  This is because there is pre-learning that you will be referring to at the induction day.

How much time will it take to complete the FutureLearn content?

The content is divided into two modules, called week 1 and week 2.  We estimate that it will take 1.5 hours to complete week 1 ahead of your induction day. Week 2 is a toolkit, this is a collection of information and resources, designed to cover areas that are relevant to you as an SCS leader.

How long will I have access to the content on FutureLearn?

The FutureLearn content will be available to you for one year.

Question 12

Can I access FutureLearn using any device?

Accepted Answer

You should be able to access FutureLearn from all PCs and laptops, whether this is work or personal. There may be exceptions if you work in a high security environment with restricted internet access.

Is the FutureLearn content fully accessible to all?

No. The induction days are held regionally which should reduce the need for accommodation. If you require accommodation, you will need to book this via your departmental booking platform.

No, the induction day runs from 9.30am to 5.30pm and it is important to fully commit to being present at the induction. This will ensure you get the most from the day and you support your fellow participants to get the most from the day too.

You will receive an email from the College of Policing asking if you would like overnight accommodation. If you choose to have an overnight stay at the College of Policing, this will need to be booked and paid via your departmental booking system.

How do I get to the College of Policing in Ryton?

The nearest train stations are Coventry and Leamington Spa. Both
stations are approximately 15 minutes via taxi and taxis are readily available from outside the station. The nearest airport is Birmingham international and it takes approximately 25 minutes by car or taxi to get to the Ryton site.
