Celebrating 70 Years of Dedication: Derek Clements-Croome's Remarkable Career

Join us as we commemorate Professor Derek Clements-Croome's illustrious 70-year journey in the field of architectural engineering and building sciences. A pioneer in sustainable and human-centric building design, Professor Clements-Croome has significantly influenced the development of intelligent buildings.

Professor Derek Clements-Croome was born in Northumberland in 1939. Derek started to work at 16 years as apprenticeship. He obtained an MSc degree in vibrational physics at London University in 1966. His PhD was awarded in building environmental engineering at Loughborough University in 1978. He was appointed Professor of Construction Engineering, School of Construction Management & Engineering, University of Reading (1988-2008) and was Director of Research (2002-2007). Since 2008, he has been Emeritus Professor in Architectural Engineering at the University of Reading.

He is editor and founder of the Intelligent Buildings International Journal, founded the MSc in Intelligent Buildings at the University of Reading in 1996, and established the CIBSE Intelligent Buildings Group in 2006.

His extensive research and publications have shaped global standards in building performance, occupant well-being, and environmental sustainability. Beyond academia, he has served as an advisor to various international organizations, contributing to reports on health and well-being in buildings. This celebration honors his unwavering commitment to advancing the built environment for the benefit of society.
