Working in community settings requires very varied skills and expertise. This session looks at how you might approach working is various different settings including educational and care settings. It follows the following structure:
• understanding your participants
• what questions to ask before you start planning
• what are your aims
• how should you plan
• who is your team and how to work together
• will you be using tech - if so what and how
• what warm up games might you use
• will you theme your workshop
• what musical ideas might you explore
• what is your end result
• how do you evaluate how well you have done?
Catherine Arlidge MBE Biography
Catherine Arlidge is a violinist, concert presenter, founder member of the Stringcredibles and the Artistic and Educational Director of the National Children's Orchestras of GB. Her extensive experience of public speaking has been developed through hosting family and schools concerts, pre concert talks, webinars, conference sessions and a TED talk.
In January 2014 Catherine became the first violinist - and only the third ever recipient - of the Royal Philharmonic Society and The Association of British Orchestras’ Salomon Prize, a prestigious award celebrating the outstanding contribution of orchestral players to the UK’s musical life. ‘A true advocate of the modern orchestral musician’, she was awarded the prize for ‘her great skill of motivating and inspiring colleagues, and for engaging with her audiences.’ In January 2016 she was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours, for services to Music Education.
