In the two-part event we will discuss the various chapters of the book. During the first session (8 Dec) we will discuss the first three chapters: Chapter 1 Design Values: Hard-Coding Liberation?, Chapter 2 Design Practices: "Nothing about Us without Us", and Chapter 3 Design Narratives: From TXTMob to Twitter. During the second session (15 Dec) we will discuss the last two chapters: Chapter 4 Design Sites: Hackerspaces, Fablabs, Hackathons, and DiscoTechs and Chapter 5 Design Pedagogies: "There's Something Wrong with This System!" . The session will be led by Auste Simkute.

The book explores the theory and practice of design justice, demonstrates how universalist design principles and practices erase certain groups of people-specifically, those who are intersectionally disadvantaged or multiply burdened under the matrix of domination (white supremacist heteropatriarchy, ableism, capitalism, and settler colonialism)-and invites readers to build a better world, a world where many worlds fit.

Sasha Costanza-Chock (they/them or she/her) is Associate Professor of Civic Media at MIT, a Faculty Associate at the Berkman-Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University, a board member of Allied Media Projects (alliedmedia.org), and the author of numerous articles and two books.
