A five-week problem-solving course using Design Thinking methods to address any challenge and come up with creative solutions.

About this event

What is Design Thinking?

Design Thinking is a solution-based process and mindset that brings focus to the problem and the people affected, involves experimentation and enhances creativity and innovation.

We teach Design Thinking in collaboration with Tallinn University in our MSc Interaction Design ( This course includes material from our MSc. Also check out our Design Explorations initiative

Looking to “think outside of the box?”

We will reveal what the box is and the tools to break it in this 5-week session.

Our course is a deep immersion into selected Design Thinking principles and methods. It includes the best highlights from our past 5 years teaching in workshops in Vancouver, Las Vegas, Orlando, Milano and Boston and at our online MSc Interaction Design.

This is for you if you:

  • Need more efficient ways to brainstorm and come up with ideas.
  • Think there are better ways to do things but can’t find your way there.
  • Have writer’s block/white screen/blank page fear.
  • Want to transform your organisation by introducing new ways of things or scrapping what doesn’t work
  • Seek positive ways to manage a diverse team and find consensus among conflicting opinions

Suitable for solving problems in design, business, engineering, technology, education etc.

Bring your own problem to solve or you will tackle one of our pre-set challenges.

Is this F2F or online?

We have both options available!

ONLINE OPTION: Offered as a distance-learning course with a kick-off and final presentation meeting via Google Meet. You will be offered a Google Classroom account to access the course material.

F2F OPTION: Offered in person in Larnaca, Cyprus (Multipurpose Space for Creativity and Culture, former Larnaca Club) with asynchronous content and assignments and weekly meetings every Saturday for discussion and reflection. You will be offered a Google Classroom account to access the course material.

BOTH: The teaching is primarily asynchronous which means you will read, explore and complete a number of assignments at your own time and receive weekly feedback.

How to participate?

This course is offered through as part of the Summer Semester programme of the Cyprus University of Technology for a fee of €320. Registration and payment needs to happen through the university portal. Please register your interest via eventbrite and we will contact you via email with payment details.

What do I get completing the course?

You will get a certificate issued by the Cyprus University of Technology worth 4 ECTS.


Panayiotis Zaphiris is a Professor at the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts of the Cyprus University of Technology. Before returning to Cyprus he was a Reader at the Centre for Human-Computer Interaction Design, School of Informatics of City University London. Before City University, he was a researcher at the Institute of Gerontology at Wayne State University from where he also got his Ph.D. in Human Computer Interaction (HCI).

Andreas Papallas is a Research Associate at the Cyprus University of Technology, a DPhil student at the University of Oxford and a practicing architect. He received his MPhil from the University of Cambridge with distinction and his BA from the University of Sheffield in architecture. He teaches co-creative design and design thinking at the MSc in Interaction Design of the Cyprus University of Technology over the past 4 years. Andreas is a certified Design Sprint Facilitator and manages the first Makerspace in Cyprus.
