Event description

Description

Design thinking has risen to prominence as organisations increasingly try to become more customer focused, innovative and agile. Programme, project and change management are also evolving to respond to these demands of contemporary business.

Design Thinking for Change, Programme and Project Professionals is a hands-on practical, 2 day training course specifically created to introduce design thinking and what it means for change. We have piloted this course with members of the Change Management Institute community.

Design thinking offers powerful ways to augment and complement existing change, programme and project methodologies.

You will learn how to create design driven change using an integrative, iterative and generative mindset. The course takes a holistic view, showing the relevance of design thinking for the strategic, people and implementation dimensions of change.

Who is this course for?

  • this course is for change, programme and project professionals who:
  • are curious about design thinking and how it can augment their existing practice
  • are new to working in design-driven, agile ways and want to learn techniques to make an impact in this environment
  • want to learn how design can help you improve implementation of pre-defined solutions
  • want to progress to more senior positions, with more influence over the solutions themselves
  • want to be more generative and user-focused
  • want to be better equipped to work with agile, design and digital teams and suppliers

Learning outcomes

Participants will leave the training:

  • knowing theories and models of design thinking and how to apply them in practice
  • able to participate in the design of a change, programme or project, not just the implementation
  • able to use design tools such as the design-driven change flightpath, service maps, prototyping and testing
  • able to work with agile, design and digital teams and suppliers

Participants receive:

  • 2 days of intensive training with 2 experienced design and change practitioners
  • excellent networking opportunities, including an invitation to a networking dinner on the evening of day 1
  • printed materials and tools you can use in your work

Agenda

On day 1, we focus on what design thinking really is and how it can complement existing change, programme and project practices. We step away from our immediate business challenges to experiment with design thinking, going beyond definitions to see what design really is. We introduce a set of design hallmarks and explore how to practically apply them in a real-life scenario.

On day 2, we introduce the Design Driven Change Flightpath, which in conjunction with the hallmarks, provides the foundation for Design Driven Change. We then apply the Hallmarks and Flightpath to a challenging business scenario, learning new tools and techniques you can apply in your practice.
