Design Thinking-Storytelling for Success
Sat 14 January 2017, 10:00 – 16:00 GMT
We listen to stories from the day we are born, and as soon as we can put a sentence together, we start telling stories. Storytelling is a key part of being human. Some of the most successful companies in the world Microsoft, Motorola, Procter & Gamble, NASA, and the World Bank are using storytelling as a powerful leadership tool. At Nike, all the senior executives are designated corporate storytellers.
In the past few years, we have been inspired by many storytellers through TED talks. Can you learn to be as good or are they born storytellers? Steve Jobs’ example of transformation from a hesitant speaker to the most inspiring says a lot.
In whatever we do we need to tell stories, to communicate who we are, what values we have, to develop trust , to motivate our employees, to secure support from stakeholders, to move our audience to take action.
As innovators we use stories to explore customers’ deeper needs, develop ideas about how to meet those needs and convince others of the value of our solutions when we feel good about having reached one. As managers we use storytelling to make ideas feel real and compelling, in order to connect with our people, to empathise and deeply understand their needs and aspirations. We also use stories to pitch our new ideas in ways that can drum up support from our bosses, our team, our followers.
How good a storyteller are you? Are you keen to become a good one? Join us in London to learn and practice storytelling skills for impact, from crafting a tweet to pitching like a pro.
