About this event

This CPD event is aimed at individual’s undertaking the Designated Lead Safeguarding (DSL) role and will equip delegates with the knowledge and skills required to fufill the DSL role in schools in England.

This one-day intensive face-to-face training session is delivered and facilitated by an experienced professional. Deleagtes will cover the following:

  • Understand the role and main responsibilities of the designated safeguarding lead.
  • Understand the key legislation and guidance that determines your organisation’s policy for child safety and welfare.
  • Describe what your schools needs to do to ensure the safety and welfare of the children and young people it comes into contact with.
  • Identify the issues that prevent staff from identifying abuse.
  • Identify tips and hints to teach children how to safeguard themselves.
  • Understand early help including thresholds in your local area.
  • Raise awareness of national and local safeguarding priorities.
  • Know how to respond effectively to a child who does report abuse and when staff identify abuse.
  • Make the right decisions about what steps to take when concerns about a child have been raised.
  • Know what is likely to happen following a referral to children's social care and what role the school has in the multi-agency child protection process, including case conferences.
  • Explain the issues connected to recording and sharing information, including confidentiality and GDPR.
  • show an awareness of the emotional impact of safeguarding children and identify ways in which a safeguarding lead can support staff.
  • Providing statutory information in regard to key functions.

The cost to attend this training is £250 (plus booking fee) for Elliot Foundation Academies and £300 (plus VAT and booking fee) for other schools and academies.
