About this Event

The physical and spiritual experience of the early Islamic garden and its influence on later European design: Early Muslim designers ingeniously manipulated water to create subtle and varied effects from gravity-powered bubble fountains, to rushing streams, curtains of water falling past flickering candles and carved basins magnifying a gentle fountain splash.

Dr Katie Campbell writer, garden historian and lecturer and garden tour leader. Her most recent book, British Gardens in Time, accompanied a BBC TV series.
