Tony Aikenhead is the Director of Operations at Sir Robert McAlpine Limited, formerly the Project Director on the London 2012 Olympic Stadium. He has worked in the Construction Industry for 40 years, being either directly or executively responsible for the delivery of a number of major projects, including Second Severn Crossing, Glaxo Wellcome Research and Development Centre at Stevenage, Portcullis House, Millennium Dome and Millennium Stadium.
The primary objective on the Olympic Stadium was to create a totally integrated design and construction team together with aligned objectives with the Olympic Delivery Authority.
Early procurement of major packages, concurrent design of key elements of the project and the maximisation of pre-fabrication played a major role in the project’s success; it was completed two months early and under budget with an exemplary safety performance.
