Designing Creative Writing Lessons: A Pedagogically-Inspired Seminar at Goldsmiths

Join us at Goldsmiths, University of London, for an energising, research-informed seminar exploring how we design creative writing lessons—rather than simply plan them.

This interactive session invites teachers of creative writing across all stages—primary, secondary, further and higher education—to think deeply about who they teach, why they teach, and how they can develop innovative, engaging approaches to writing. You’ll explore the distinction between planning and designing, considering how creative and collaborative strategies can shape truly transformative learning environments.

You’ll be working alongside students on the MA in Creative Writing and Education, and will get the chance to learn more about the programme during the session—especially its focus on designing writing pedagogies that are creative, research-informed and identity-affirming. This idea is central to the degree, and we’ll explore how it can shape your teaching practice too.

We’ll dive into some key theories of learning, revisit what makes great teaching great, and offer time and space for you to design your own lesson ideas. Bring along a sense of experimentation—and if you can, a few thoughts about what and who you want to teach.

Whether you're just starting out or refining a seasoned teaching practice, this session will inspire new thinking, creative courage, and pedagogical clarity. Because while our students may differ in age, the principles of powerful learning design stay brilliantly the same.
